Wordle Scorekeeper – Private SMS Wordle Team Scoring App

Last Updated: February 17, 2026

Overview

Wordle Scorekeeper is a private, non-commercial tool operated for a closed group of friends and family playing the New York Times Wordle game. We use Twilio to send and receive SMS messages for submitting Wordle emoji grids, receiving score confirmations, daily prompts (e.g., around 3 PM if missing), error messages (e.g., wrong game number), and daily/weekly team results summaries (all under 160 characters).

We collect and process only the minimal personal information necessary to provide this service: phone numbers (from our group contact list) and Wordle scores/grids submitted via SMS. We do not sell, rent, share, or use your data for any other purpose, including marketing or advertising.

Information We Collect

We do not collect names beyond what's in the contacts file, location data, device info, or any other personal details unless explicitly provided (and even then, only if relevant to manual score entry requests).

How We Use Your Information

All communications are limited to this private group activity—no promotional or unrelated messages.

Consent and Opt-Out

Consent is obtained via explicit action: By texting your Wordle emoji grid to our toll-free number, you consent to receive automated SMS related to scorekeeping (confirmations, errors, reminders, results). This is a VIA_TEXT opt-in for our private group.

Full opt-in details: Wordle Group SMS Opt-In Policy

Opt-Out: Reply STOP (or STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT) to any message to immediately unsubscribe. We honor all standard opt-out keywords via Twilio. Once opted out, you will receive no further messages, and your data will no longer be used for scoring (though historical scores may remain anonymized for group records if needed).

Data Sharing and Security

We do not share, sell, or disclose your phone numbers or scores to any third parties except:

Data is stored securely in minimal files/databases accessible only to the app operator (Joe McVerry). We use reasonable measures to protect against unauthorized access, but as a small private service, we rely on Twilio's secure infrastructure for SMS handling.

Your Rights

Contact us to request deletion of your phone number and score history, or for any questions. We'll respond promptly and remove your data from active use.
